A practical guide to inform dairy producers about the signals herds produce, and how to interpret and manage them to improve health, well-being and profitability.
Dutch vet and cow enthusiast Jan Hulsen has drawn on his expertise and wide experience of cows and dairy farmers to write Cow Signals.
Cows continuously send out signals about their health, well-being, nutrition and production. The challenge for producers is knowing how to read these signals and how to use them in order to identify issues with their health and wellbeing and using this information to make informed changes in the management and production of the dairy cow in order to improve herd performance and yield.
Modern day dairy-farmers are hard-working and need to know a tremendous amount of information about their herd in order to manage it correctly. That is where Cow signals comes in, a practical and easy to use guide idea for producers, farmers and students.Cow Signals is a guide on observing cows, interpretation of signals and their evaluation for a practical solution.
Richly illustrated with photographs and drawings, this guide encourages farmers on how to interpret the behaviour, posture and physical characteristics of groups of cows and individual animals.
