A Picture Guide to Inspection of Cattle is a visual resource for food safety and veterinary professionals. Designed for practitioners across all educational backgrounds, this comprehensive guide bridges the gap between complex pathology and practical application.
By mastering the identification of pathological conditions that threaten human health, professionals ensure the integrity of the global food supply and uphold the rigorous standards of U.S. food safety standards. Aligned with federal statutes, this guide covers everything from normal anatomy to condemnable and non-condemnable conditions. Through a compelling “visual story” approach, it transforms technical data into an engaging, accessible tool for protecting public health, featuring real world examples with visual explanations.
For ease of reference, it is organized into 4 major sections: normal anatomy, condemnable conditions, non-condemnable conditions, and other conditions of interest. A glossary is also included to define terms used in this guide. Although the conditions covered in this guide are not exhaustive, they provide a good representation of conditions commonly seen.
The goal of this guide is to improve recognition of common postmortem conditions and increase the confidence of inspection personnel, helping defend against food safety hazards and reducing product waste.
Ideal for public health veterinarians and inspection staff in federal, state, and uniformed services performing inspection on cattle for human consumption within the US or for the US market.
